We Can’t Afford To Relax: The Implications of Biodiversity Conservation
Taylor Parker

Over the course of the last year Taylor has traveled to Iceland, the Sonoran Desert, and New Zealand to better understand biodiversity, endemism, and rare species conservation.

While working on research projects, studying the ecology of these locales, and interviewing scientists implementing innovative techniques to pull species from the brink of extinction, a subtle message has repeated itself throughout: we’re at an unprecedented intersection. After seeing first-hand the size and scale of a global movement of conservation professionals working diligently to solve the world’s big environmental problems, it is becoming clear that we are at a critical juncture where the implications of our actions now will help to shape how we live on this planet for the next thousand years.

This talk for the South Coast Chapter of the California Native Plant Society will highlight some of the native flora and fauna found throughout the world and the importance of protecting the integrity of the unique California Floristic Province.
